Rental Terms & Conditions

Version: 31 August 2026

These terms apply to online reservation requests and vehicle rentals arranged through Shark Car Hire. The final rental agreement signed or accepted for a particular vehicle may contain additional terms relevant to that rental.

1. Reservation

An online reservation is a request for Shark Car Hire to provide the selected vehicle for the stated period. Submission of a reservation does not by itself guarantee vehicle release. Reservations may remain pending until customer information, availability, payment and applicable rental requirements have been checked.

2. Customer eligibility

The customer must satisfy the applicable Shark Car Hire eligibility requirements for the selected rental. Requirements may vary depending on whether the rental is self-drive, chauffeur-driven, corporate or otherwise subject to additional conditions.

3. Identification and verification

Before a vehicle is released, Shark Car Hire may require the customer to present original or otherwise acceptable identification and supporting documents. These may include an NRC or passport, driver's licence, proof of residence and any other document reasonably required for the rental.

Confirmation through the website that the customer meets these requirements is a declaration only. It does not mean that Shark Car Hire has already verified the documents.

4. Driver's licence

A self-drive customer or authorised driver must hold a valid driver's licence that meets the applicable Shark Car Hire requirements. The licence must remain valid for the rental period. Shark Car Hire may refuse vehicle release where the licence or driver does not meet the applicable requirements.

5. Vehicle availability

Vehicle availability can change between quotation, reservation and confirmation. Shark Car Hire will take reasonable steps to provide the selected vehicle, but vehicle release remains subject to availability and operational condition.

6. Quotation and pricing

A quotation records the price calculated for the vehicle, travel zone, dates, driver option and other selected conditions at the time the quotation is issued.

A quotation does not reserve a vehicle. Where a quotation expires or the customer changes the rental details, a new quotation may be required.

7. Payment

Applicable rental charges, deposits and other agreed amounts must be paid according to the payment terms communicated by Shark Car Hire. A reservation may remain pending where required payment has not been completed or confirmed.

8. Security deposit

Where a refundable security deposit applies, it is separate from rental revenue. Refund or deduction of the deposit will depend on the rental agreement, vehicle condition, outstanding charges and any other applicable obligations.

9. Vehicle collection

The customer must attend the agreed collection location at the agreed time and complete the applicable verification, payment and vehicle handover process before taking possession of the vehicle.

10. Vehicle return

The vehicle must be returned at the agreed date, time and location unless an extension or alternative arrangement has been authorised by Shark Car Hire.

Late return may result in additional rental charges or other charges applicable under the rental agreement.

11. Extensions

The customer should request an extension before the agreed return time. An extension is not effective until Shark Car Hire approves it. Additional charges may apply.

12. Vehicle use

The vehicle must be used responsibly, lawfully and only for the agreed rental purpose. The customer must take reasonable care of the vehicle and must not intentionally or recklessly expose it to avoidable loss or damage.

13. Authorised drivers

Only a driver accepted or authorised for the rental may drive a self-drive vehicle. Allowing an unauthorised driver to operate the vehicle may breach the rental agreement.

14. Travel area

The vehicle must be used within the travel area or pricing zone agreed for the rental. The customer must obtain approval before taking the vehicle outside the agreed area where such approval is required.

15. Fuel

The customer must follow the fuel terms stated during vehicle handover or in the rental agreement. Any applicable refuelling charge may be payable where the vehicle is not returned according to the agreed fuel condition.

16. Fines, tolls and penalties

Traffic fines, parking charges, tolls and other penalties arising from the customer's use of the vehicle may be the customer's responsibility where provided for by the rental agreement or applicable requirements.

17. Accidents and incidents

Any accident, theft, loss, police matter, significant mechanical problem or other serious incident involving the vehicle must be reported to Shark Car Hire as soon as reasonably possible.

The customer must reasonably cooperate with applicable reporting, police, insurance and investigation requirements.

18. Damage and loss

Vehicle condition may be recorded at collection and return. Responsibility for damage, loss, excess, repair charges or related costs will depend on the circumstances of the incident and the applicable rental and insurance terms.

19. Mechanical problems

The customer should promptly inform Shark Car Hire of a material vehicle fault. Except where necessary for immediate safety, the customer should not authorise major repairs or modifications without Shark Car Hire approval.

20. Prohibited use

The vehicle must not be used for unlawful activity, deliberate abuse, unauthorised racing, reckless driving, unauthorised commercial activity or any purpose materially inconsistent with the agreed rental.

21. Cancellation

A customer may request cancellation before collection. Any refund, retained amount or cancellation charge will depend on the payment already made, notice given, rental circumstances and the applicable booking or rental terms.

22. Shark Car Hire cancellation

Shark Car Hire may decline or cancel a reservation where the customer does not meet applicable requirements, required information is materially inaccurate, payment obligations are not met, the vehicle becomes unavailable, or the rental cannot reasonably proceed.

23. Personal information

Shark Car Hire may process customer account, contact, quotation, reservation, payment and rental information for purposes including providing the service, customer communication, verification, record keeping, security, dispute handling and compliance with applicable obligations.

24. Account security

Customers are responsible for keeping their account credentials secure and should notify Shark Car Hire if they believe their account has been accessed without permission.

25. Online information

Shark Car Hire takes reasonable steps to keep online vehicle, branch and pricing information accurate. Where an obvious technical, pricing or availability error occurs, Shark Car Hire may review the affected quotation or reservation before confirmation.

26. Changes to reservation details

Changing the vehicle, dates, branch, travel zone, driver option or other material rental details may require availability to be checked again and may change the price.

27. Confirmation

A pending reservation becomes confirmed only when Shark Car Hire has accepted it through the applicable confirmation process. The customer should not treat a pending reservation as final confirmation.

28. Additional rental agreement

Before vehicle release, the customer may be required to sign or accept a vehicle-specific rental or handover agreement containing additional operational terms.

29. Questions

Customers who do not understand a rental condition should contact Shark Car Hire before accepting the reservation or collecting the vehicle.
